Foster
Animal Outreach of Shelby County cares for homeless cats and kittens by placing them in volunteer foster homes until a permanent home can be found. We have weekly adoption events and 4 permanent cages at the PetSmart in Greenwood to find loving and caring homes for these pets.
We are always in need of foster homes to care for the many abandoned and homeless cats and kittens in our area. The requirements for foster parents are simple.
- Be loving and caring to the cat or kitten you are to foster.
- Provide food, litter and separate living quarters for the cat or kitten.
- All foster animals must be kept indoors and seperate from your family’s pets.
- AOSC may be able to provide food and litter for the animal depending on current donations.
- All food and litter that you purchase to care for a foster cat is tax deductible.
- Monitor the health of the cat or kitten.
- AOSC covers the cost of all medical care for pets under our care providing the animal is taken to one of our authorized veterinarians and the care has been approved by a board member.
- Transport the cat or kitten to the weekly adoption events.
- Transporting the cat or kitten is at the foster’s convenience.
- The foster parents do not need to stay during the event, just pick up the cat or kitten afterward.
- We would like the cat or kitten to be exposed to as many adoption events as possible to improve the chances of adoption.
- AOSC provides transportation to Indianapolis for Shelby County fosters if you are not able to.
Being a foster parent is a very satisfying and rewarding experience. Sometimes parting with a foster cat or kitten that you have nurtured and cared for can be difficult. However, knowing that the new home has been carefully screened, you will feel joy in the fact that you have helped this cat or kitten find a better life and helped the community by reducing the number of homeless cats and kittens.
